Cardinal Newman Book Day

DSC 0135Learners and teachers at Cardinal Newman School celebrated Book Day in style on Thursday 16th June. Teachers surprised learners by arriving at school dressed as a variety of book characters, from Oliver Twist to Harry Potter.

Cardinal Newman places a great deal of importance upon reading; it is an essential life skill, and enriches learners' lives and understanding of the world greatly.

In the 2015 Welsh Government Reading tests, learners in Key Stage 3 achieved the highest scores in RCT. This is due mostly, the school believes, to the fact that learners read every day as part of the Accelerated Reader programme, and the importance of reading is emphasised in every subject area.

Learners also celebrated World Book Day by participating in a quiz, guessing which 'shelfie' belonged to which teacher, and raised money for our partner school in Bukalasi, Uganda by being sponsored to read as many books as they could.

A great day was had by all!
