Homework Schedules 2013-14

homeworkStudies in Britain have shown that learners who are supported by their families with homework are likely to perform significantly better in academic examinations at 16 years old and beyond than those who do not. If we want our learners to be successful at Cardinal Newman, family involvement is important. Homework schedules have now been finalised for Year 7,8 & 9. Congratulations: Best School in RCT!

pedestrianisationCongratulations to the pupils and staff of Cardinal Newman for their achievement in being ranked the best school in RCT by the Media Wales ranking system. Media Wales are the publishers of The Western Mail, The South Wales Echo and The Pontypridd Observer. The ranking is based on an independent scoring system based on the schools performance in a variety of areas. Mr O'Sullivan commented, 'I am delighted that the hard work of the pupils and staff is being recognised. I am particularly pleased that this system is basing its findings primarily on the teaching, learning and the educational attainment of our pupils. I can assure parents that our drive for further improvement continues.'

GCSE Results

GroupCardinal Newman Catholic has recorded its third set of record breaking results in three years. 82.5% of pupils achieved at least five GCSEs at 'C' grade or above. This is a 9% rise from 2012. 66 % of pupils achieved at least a 'C' for English, 69% at least a 'C' in Maths and 68% at least a 'C' in Religious Studies. The school is very pleased with its Science results, 99% of pupils achieving at least the equivalent of a 'C' at GCSE. Above all, the school is very proud of the fact that 100% of pupils left Cardinal Newman with at least five GCSEs at A*- G grade. Over 80% of the pupils have said that they will be returning to the new sixth form collaboration between Cardinal Newman, Coleg Morgannwg and St David's College in September.

Mr O'Sullivan commented, "I am extremely pleased with the results this year. We have a number of high flyers who have done very well indeed. We have had the largest number of A* grades in the history of the school. This year group have worked very hard and deserve the results they have got. I am especially proud of the fact that every single pupil in the school got at least five GCSEs. These results are testament to the fact that as a Catholic school we care for the needs of every individual regardless of ability. The vast majority of pupils will be returning to us in the sixth form, I wish them luck in their A level studies and I look forward to celebrating their success again in two years time."
