New Roof

roofworksThanks to fundraising by parents and contributions from the local authority and the diocese the school is undertaking a large scale replacement of the roof on the main block. The work is costing £260,000 and will take approximately twelve weeks. During the works, parents are asked to reinforce the message that barriers and restrictions are there for the safety of all, and extra caution should be taken while moving around the site.

An Easter Message from the Headteacher

It has been a very long, but rewarding term at Cardinal Newman. The Easter period is always a special time for us. Being in school during Holy Week allows us to emphasise to everyone within our community, the distinctive nature of our school. It is clear to all at this time that we are a Christ centred community with Gospel values at our core. I would like to thank parents for their continued support for the ethos and mission statement of the school.

I hope you all have a happy, holy and peaceful Easter.

Justin O’Sullivan

Holy Week 2014

holy week

Holy Week has been both memorable and educational for our school community. The story of Jesus' suffering, death and Resurrection are at the heart of our faith so throughout the week all learners and staff have had the opportunity to reflect upon the significant events in the final week of Jesus’ life. We began with a special Passiontide service at Coleg y Cymoedd led by our Arch-bishop George Stack with the Sixth Form. Learners in Years 7 and 8 took part in the Lenten Walk in their RE lessons. Visitors from Pontypridd’s Christian Charity retold the Passion of Christ to Year 9 through the television series 24. On Wednesday the RE Department led all learners in a special service reflecting on the final hours of Jesus’ life. During our service we listened to John’s Gospel, built tableaux of the ‘Objects of the Cross’ and reflected upon the meaning of each one. Throughout the week departments brought the Easter story ‘alive’ in their subjects. In PE all learners took part in a 1km Sports Relief run. So far over £700 has been raised.
