School Transport

busesThe Welsh Government has launched a consultation on school transport. It is essential that as many people as possible connected to Church and Catholic Schools make their feelings known. The proposal guidance does not guarantee free transport to Church Schools. The link to the Consultation Document and the email address for the Welsh Government are provided below. The Consultation closes on the 13th April 2014.

Letter of Thanks - Fund Raising

re6

Dear Students and Staff of Cardinal Newman School,

The school governing body heard of your fund raising to aid victims of the Philippines typhoon at our recent meeting.

We were hugely impressed by the effort you made and the results achieved.

Your contribution to victims of the disaster has helped to:

  • Provide 50,000 people with hygiene kits, including soap and water purification tablets to help prevent the spread of disease
  • Provide safe drinking water to thousands of families in ten of the worst-hit communities on Leyte island
  • Deliver food, shelter and emergency kits to remote islands to the north of Cebu, using convoys of local fishing-boats
  • Support local church volunteers in providing thousands of food packs and shelter kits to devastated communities across the country

With support from CAFOD and other Caritas agencies around the world, Church partners have helped more than 830,000 people.

Your efforts are a credit to yourselves and to our school.

Yours sincerely,

Rory Simmonds,

Chair of the Governing Body of Cardinal Newman School.

Athlete Mentoring

v love small

As part of the Sky Sports Living for Sport Initiative, Olympian and former international triple jumper Vernon Samuels visited the school as an Athlete Mentor. The role of the Athlete Mentor is to inspire the sporting aspirations of students by passing on examples of their journey to success and experiences as an elite sports person.

Staff and pupils suggested Vernon trademarked the ‘V love’ or ‘Big Vern’ victory pose that they had invented for him.
