Sixth Form

Cardinal Newman Catholic School and Sixth Form Centre is unique. We provide a traditional Catholic sixth form experience for our students. We believe that God wants excellence for everyone. We define excellence as making the absolute most of our God given talents. Every student is expected to aspire to this definition of personal and academic excellence.

We are an open and inclusive institution. We welcome applications from our current Year 11 and from those in other schools who think they might share our values and aspirations.

Our sixth form is centred around high standards and high expectations. Standards of teaching and learning are excellent. There are high expectations in terms of effort, attendance, behaviour and uniform. We regularly outperform other sixth forms and colleges in the area. We are determined to drive for further improvements and establish ourselves as one of the top performing centres in Wales.

We are committed to every student having:

  • A Head of Year dedicated to maximising their potential
  • A form tutor who monitors progress, provides support and gives guidance
  • A designated sixth form study area and common room
  • Access to the library and librarian support
  • Excellent subject teachers with a proven track record
  • Access to the RCT/Merthyr ‘Seren Hub’ for the more able and talented.
  • High quality career guidance to access top universities and the best employment
  • Teachers who constantly strive to stretch, challenge and enrich their experience

In 2016 our students successfully gained places at Oxford, Kings College, Durham, Exeter and Bath amongst many others. We have strong links with Welsh universities with many of our students going on to study at Cardiff and Swansea. We are passionate about our students maximising their potential and setting their sights high.

We are a small sixth form and we believe this is our strength. We know our students in a way larger institutions cannot. We provide a traditional offering of subjects that we are skilled in delivering and that we know are valued by universities and employers.

This year our Sixth Form Open Evening will be on the 23rd November 2017. We will be providing ‘taster sessions’ where you will be able to see our teachers delivering real A Level content in the subjects that you are interested in. We look forward to seeing you. .

The closing date for applications is the 12th January 2018.
