Hay Festival Trip

On Friday the 26th of May, 29 pupil librarians and keen readers set off with Miss Davies, Miss White and Mrs John for a day at the annual book festival at Hay-on-Wye. Celebrating its 30th year, the festival had much to offer; the group from Cardinal Newman saw presentations from three fantastic writers.

First up was Melinda Salisbury. Her three part fantasy series, The Sin Eater's Daughter, has kept readers of all ages enthralled and her presentation was no different. She discussed her journey to becoming a writer, her inspirations and her writing process. Following this, Daniel Morden, a renowned storyteller, took to the stage. His old Celtic tale, the Leaf, was exciting and moving and the children really enjoyed hearing it.

Following a picnic lunch and lots of selfies in the sunshine, the group went on to the final presentation by Phil Earle. The children were completely charmed by his honesty, his funny bones and his ability to see stories in every aspect of the world around us. Some queued for almost an hour after the event to get their books signed by him!

A wonderful time was had by all. Pupils' behaviour was impeccable and each of the presentations was outstanding. Mrs John came back with a list of 'must reads' for the library and everyone came away feeling inspired and looking forward to what next year has to offer!

School Uniform Update May 2017

Blazer ConsultationFollowing our recent consultation, the school will formally adopt blazers for September 2017. The linked documents details the expectations for uniform and contains photographs to highlight what is acceptable. The school believes that uniform is an essential part of discipline and demonstrates a pupil's readiness to work. Our updated uniform is smart and business like. It signals our high expectations for all our pupils. The new uniform will be compulsory for Yr7 and Yr12 from September. It will be phased in for other year groups, becoming compulsory in September 2018. However, we hope as many pupils as possible adopt the uniform from this September. School Uniform.pdf
