Congratulations to Debate Team

 team

A huge congratulations to the Cardinal Newman debate team who were runners up in the Pixl Up for Debate National Championships. It is a wonderful achievement to be second out of over 120 schools in England and Wales!

The competition took place on Thursday 6th July in the prestigious Harrow School, near London. After an early start, the whole debate club, accompanied by Mr O'Sullivan, Mr Castle and Mrs Nickolls, arrived at Harrow with enough time for a quick tour around its oldest classroom.

This was the room in which the famous 'wingardium leviosa' scene from Harry Potter was filmed and is steeped in history. The whole room is adorned with the names of past pupils etched into the wood.

Following the tour and a quick briefing, the team had to debate on the topics of national service, the monarchy and funding for the arts. Despite fierce competition, and after a wait which would put the X Factor to shame, we found out that Amelia, Tom and Melanie had made it to the finals!
