Ski 1Waterville Valley ski resor In December 2011, Cardinal Newman R.C School embarked on their bi-annual ski trip to Waterville Valley, U.S.A. In total 72 pupils and 7 staff members were involved in the highly successful school venture. The trip departed from CNS on 13th December and returned 21st December 2011. Pupils experienced a total of 5 days skiing at the picturesque resort and during this time developed into confident and able skiers.

Everybody on the trip enjoyed this wonderful experience and the challenges of skiing.

Ski2A typical day consisted of breakfast, followed by a short journey to the ski resort where pupils participated in ski lessons. In the evenings there was a wide range of activities and entertainment provided for pupils, including ice skating, the legendary quiz headed by Mrs Cox and Mrs Morgan and an opportunity to bear watch.

The town square at Waterville Valley Saturday evening consisted of a candle lit advent service prepared by Miss Morgan and many pupils conducted readings including Josh Jefferis, Aisling Thomas, Joseph Hobbs, Kate Norris, Luke Williams and the singing of carols was led by Caitlin Lavagna and Anya O’Callaghan.

On our final day we had a whistle stop tour of New York, learning some of the history of the city, starting with Battery Park, Pier 54, the location of Titanic’s famous departure. The tour also included a viewing of the world peace memorial, Trinity church and the World Trade centre. Pupils also had the opportunity to walk through Central Park hearing the history of John Lennon and visiting Strawberry fields. We also viewed other landmarks such as: Trump Tower, the Time Warner Centre and the Juilliard Art school where the likes of Robin Williams and Christopher Reeve studied. Pupils travelled down the impressive 5th Avenue window gazing at all the designer shops such as Tiffanys, DeBeers, Diesel and Luis Vatton. This was finished off with a trip to the top of the Rockefeller centre where pupils could take in the panoramic views of New York City. The New York skyline from the top of the Rockefeller centre
