The Music Department is a vibrant and diverse department that has a high profile within the School.

The main aim of music teaching in Cardinal Newman School is to foster pupils’ sensitivity to, and understanding and enjoyment of Music through an active involvement in performing, composing and appraising. Examples of topics studied at Key Stage 3 include Music of the World, Popular Music, Film Music, and Jazz Music.

At Key Stages 4 and 5 there are consistently strong numbers of pupils opting for the subject at Entry Level, GCSE and AS/A2, achieving a pass rate above the National and school average.

We are fortunate to be a well-resourced department with a classroom centred around practical music making, a fully refurbished Music ICT suite equipped with Sibelius 4 and Cubase Essential 4, a sixth form study area, and a self-contained rehearsal room.
